Above 8 is a contemporary rooftop bar and lounge, situated on level 9 of the brand new Travelodge hotel in Hurstville. Above 8 is a unique dining experience featuring appetizing shared plates, artisan hand stretched pizzas, and meticulously-curated signature cocktails designed by our professional mixologist. An extensive list of hand-picked boutique wines and craft beers provide something new to try each time our guests visit.


We are seeking a creative and experienced Bar Manager with a bubbly personality to oversee the operations of the Bar. The successful applicant would be required to work at peak operating times, working and managing the bar and beverage service.


The role will focus on setting and maintaining a high level of customer service including coaching and mentoring the team. The role would also involve working with the Executive Managers to propose and procure new and innovative products, promotions, and service ideas to attract our target market. It would also involve training and educating all frontline staff to deliver the same high level of service standards.


The successful candidate would not only show a commitment to enhance the guest experience, but also drive to procure and deliver the latest product and service trends.


Key Responsibilities: 

  • Drive a culture built on trust and of continuous improvement by encouraging innovation
  • Managing the standards and procedures for the Above 8 Bar
  • You will be required to act as a relief Restaurant Manager closing or opening the venue and managing staff on shift when required
  • Leading, developing and mentoring the team at all times
  • Complete ongoing staff training for beverage service, including cocktails, beer, wine and spirit knowledge and service
  • Seek out new and creative ways to attract and retain guests and further enhance the guest experience
  • Adhere to uniform policy and guidelines
  • Deliver a high level of service of all food and beverage both at the bar and to the table
  • Be flexible and dynamic, able to jump into another position last-minute if required

Skills/Qualifications Required:

  • Have at least 2 years’ experience in a similar role.
  • Proficient in all aspects of restaurant, bar operations with extensive food, wine, coffee, and cocktail knowledge.
  • Proficiency in beverage and staff training.
  • Experience in procurement of beverage products or pre-opening is an advantage.
  • Ability to work under pressure in a faced paced environment.
  • Ability to take on new challenges, take ownership of the success of the venue.
  • Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) certificate.
  • Certificate in hospitality or related field preferred.
  • High level of written and verbal communication skills.
  • You will need to be currently residing in Australia and legally able to work.
